SEE MY SOCIAL WORK RECORDS

You have a right to see your non computerised social work records, as long as the social service department considers you capable of sufficiently understanding the nature of your request. However some Trusts have a policy where 14 is considered to be the age when you have sufficient
understanding and also information recorded prior to a certain date is restricted. You should know that 'Family History' and 'Third Party' information is also restricted.

'Third Party' means information written by someone else, for example a GP or school, which is held in your file. There are certain other types of information which you may not be able to gain access to. In relation to computerised records you have a right at any age to request information from the social services departments, as long as you are capable of understanding the nature of the request.
