Dramarama
Dramarama occurred in December 2002, this was information
and recruitment event for youth@clc. Young people from a wide
range of youth centres and youth services across Northern
Ireland were invited to the event. The launch was held in
the Wellington Park. Cool FM DJ Carolyn Stuart was present
to offer her support. Gerard Mc CABE FROM THE Rainbow Factory
helped organise the event and offered has expertise in order
to create a presentation which included dance, drama, and
live music. The presentation helped youth@clc tell the audience
of some of the work and fun that youth@clc take part in through
working with the Children’s Law Centre in promoting
and realising children’s rights.
Youth@clc are still actively involved in recruiting for new
members to join the group and help work towards a better future.
If you would like more or join please contact info@childrenslawcentre.org

Policing
On the 25th March 2003, two members of youth@clc attended
a human rights conference on young people and the Police.
The Venue was Armagh City Hotel.
The Conference was centred around hearing the views of young
people on the PSNI (Policing Service for Northern Ireland)
and what changes could be made in the future. Questions were
asked openly through the effective use of a question wall.
These questions were answered in a refreshingly honest way
by Bobby Hunniford Head of Community Involvement .
The following guest speakers were present, a victim of crime,
a student Police Officer and a y0oung person who had involvement
with the justice system. The young people who attended the
conference broke into discussion groups to review the issues
in more detail and to ensure all young people who attended
had an opportunity to participate.
The whole day was very positive with comic interjections throughout
from ' The Hole in the Wall Gang'.
Human Rights and Education
Promoting positive parenting
Armagh City Hotel October 2002
Youthh@clc representatives attended the promoting positive
parenting conference that aimed to highlight issues of concern
around physical punishment towards children. A youth@clc member
gave a speech highlighting the fact that young people are
a vulnerable sector of our society. Other speakers at this
conference included a guest speaker from the office of Law
Reform in Northern Ireland. Dr Dorothy Rowe also gave a speech
which highlighted alternative methods to parenting and the
effects that beating a child can have.
This was an excellent conference which highlighted issues
in the law on physical punishment in the home.
